Ireti Kingibe, the Senator for the Federal Capital Territory, has voiced her astonishment and disbelief regarding a misleading viral video that purportedly depicts her and Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 Presidential Candidate, orchestrating protests in Abuja on Thursday.

She condemned the video as a calculated effort to tarnish both her and Obi’s reputations. On Friday, Kingibe stated, I am appalled and infuriated by the outright falsehoods and misinformation propagated by troublemakers!

The footage being shared is over six weeks old from a Labour Party National Working Committee meeting that coincided with a protest by the NLC outside our office.

As key figures—including members of the Senate House of Representatives and Mr. Peter Obi—we engaged with those protesting to listen to their grievances.

Now, these deceitful actors are attempting to misrepresent this outdated footage as recent events, falsely asserting that Peter Obi and I were leading protests in Abuja yesterday. This is a malicious and desperate maneuver aimed at undermining our credibility.

She clarified, stating, To clear up any misconceptions, Mr. Peter Obi is not in Abuja, and I haven’t left my home since Wednesday due to illness.

Therefore, I certainly did not distribute food and water at the protest site; although that would be commendable for anyone who did.

I strongly denounce this orchestrated effort to spread misinformation and create confusion, which is being used as a basis to assert that I funded the Abuja protest.

This is a disgraceful and irresponsible action that we will not accept. We refuse to remain passive while our names and reputations are tarnished by these unscrupulous individuals.

It’s worth noting that Obi himself has also refuted this claim, clarifying that he was in his home state of Anambra and could not possibly be in both Abuja and Anambra at the same time.
