Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has strongly criticized individuals who have taken to social media to mock the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.

In a lengthy post on X (formerly Twitter), Fani-Kayode emphasized that only God has the authority to judge a person, adding that negative comments in the wake of Buhari’s death do nothing to diminish his legacy.

“The vile and disrespectful remarks being shared by certain individuals following the passing of @MBuhari are deeply disturbing,” Fani-Kayode wrote. “Whether you admired or disliked him, supported or opposed him, mocking someone in death is both unacceptable and disgraceful.”

He argued that such behavior reflects a loss of basic human decency, especially when considering the grief of the deceased’s family and loved ones.

Drawing a biblical reference, Fani-Kayode recalled how David mourned King Saul, his adversary, upon his death. “Despite Saul’s flaws, David honored him because he was anointed by God. He did not ridicule or speak ill of him,” he said.

Fani-Kayode urged critics to reflect on their own mortality, noting that death is inevitable for all. He also challenged those mocking Buhari to consider whether their own lives have left a legacy comparable to that of the former president.

“Buhari ran his race, left a legacy, and was loved by millions. His passing should be treated with respect,” he concluded. “Those who choose to mock him in death reveal more about themselves than about him.”
