FG Assures Nigerians in Iran Are Safe Amid Rising Security Concerns
The Federal Government of Nigeria has moved to allay fears over the safety of its citizens residing in Iran, amid rising security concerns in the region.
In an official statement issued through the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) and the Nigerian Embassy in Tehran, the government assured the public that there is no immediate threat to the Nigerian community in Iran. It added that diplomatic missions are actively monitoring the situation and maintaining regular communication with Nigerian residents to ensure their well-being.
According to NiDCOM, the Nigerian Embassy has put necessary measures in place to provide support and respond swiftly to any potential emergency. Embassy officials have been in touch with leaders of the Nigerian community, urging them to remain calm, law-abiding, and alert to developments in their environment.
The Commission also emphasized that no Nigerian in Iran has been harmed or caught up in any unrest so far, and contingency plans are in place should the situation escalate.
The assurance comes amid broader geopolitical tensions affecting parts of the Middle East, prompting several governments to evaluate the safety of their nationals in the region.
The Nigerian government reaffirmed its commitment to the safety of its diaspora communities and reiterated that it is prepared to take all necessary steps to protect its citizens abroad. Nigerians with relatives in Iran have been advised to stay informed through official channels and avoid spreading unverified information that could cause panic.
