FG to Establish Building Materials Manufacturing Hubs Across Six Geopolitical Zones
The Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has unveiled plans to establish building materials manufacturing hubs across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones. Housing Minister Ahmed Dangiwa announced the initiative on Saturday during a meeting with Zheng Xiaopeng, Executive Chairman of Yiwu China-Africa Business Council, and High Chief Mike Ugwu, the council’s Vice Chairman.
“We aim to create hubs with industries or factories dedicated to producing building materials,” Dangiwa said.
The proposed hubs will be situated in Sagamu, Aba, Warri or Asaba, Ajaokuta, Kano, and Gombe.
Dangiwa invited investors to collaborate, noting, “We seek partners willing to fund, build, and manage these hubs, with the promise of transferring ownership once the investment is recouped.”
In terms of security, Dangiwa assured that the selected locations are secure and are chosen for their existing building materials markets.
The hubs will manufacture items such as roofing sheets, ceilings, tiles, and doors, and will be equipped with facilities for power, water, and worker accommodation.
Investors are encouraged to submit their designs, with a minimum land provision of 100 hectares. The hubs can vary in size from small to large.
The minister also highlighted plans to designate these hubs as free zones to cut importation costs, generate employment, and boost economic growth.
