Former PDP Chairman Secondus Supports Planned Hunger Protest
A former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Uche Secondus, has expressed support for the planned #EndBadGovernance protest in Nigeria and challenged President Bola Tinubu’s stance on the issue.
In a statement released on Tuesday by his media aide, Ike Abonyi, Secondus reminded the President of his past involvement in protests, stating, “President Tinubu, while in opposition, was a notable arrowhead leading protests against the government.”
He questioned why the President now holds a different view on civic actions and emphasized the importance of peaceful protests in addressing Nigeria’s current challenges.
“The state of anomie where we find ourselves today as a country has incrementally worsened because the citizens failed in their duty to hold governments at all levels accountable,” Secondus said.
The former PDP leader described the planned protest as a non-partisan, pan-Nigerian, and altruistic engagement by the citizens to address the issues facing the country. He argued that protests are a powerful democratic tool to awaken national consciousness and compel leaders to act in the interest of the people.
Secondus urged protesters to remain organized and peaceful and called on the government and security agencies to provide a secure environment in accordance with international law and the Nigerian Constitution.
“This is not the time to sweep issues under the carpet; it is the time to speak truth to power and awaken our collective conscience so that we can work together to build a better society,” the statement concluded.
