Gov Yusuf Nominates Two for Commissioner Roles, Appoints New Solicitor-General in Kano

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has submitted the names of two nominees to the State House of Assembly for confirmation as commissioners and members of the state executive council.

The announcement was made on Saturday in a statement issued by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

The nominees are Barrister Abdulkarim Kabir Maude, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) designate from Minjibir, and Dr. Aliyu Isa Aliyu, an Associate Professor of Mathematics.

Barrister Maude, aged 40, is set to be formally conferred with the SAN title at the Supreme Court tomorrow. A graduate of Law from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, he has over a decade of legal experience spanning corporate law, property management, and litigation. He previously served as the Kano head of chambers at a reputable law firm. His academic qualifications include an LLM in International Economic Law from Maryam Abacha American University of Niger, a Master’s in Business and Commercial Law from Bayero University Kano, and a BL from the Nigerian Law School.

Dr. Aliyu, 41, earned degrees in Mathematics from Bayero University Kano, Jordan University of Science and Technology, and Firat University in Turkey, where he obtained his PhD. He began his academic career at Federal University Dutse in 2014 and later became an Associate Professor at North West University, Kano. He has held international research positions, including a postdoctoral fellowship at Sun Yat-Sen University in China and a role as Associate Adjunct Researcher at Near East University in Cyprus. Since 2023, he has served as the Statistician-General and Director-General of the Kano State Bureau of Statistics. He is also a beneficiary of the Kwankwasiyya foreign scholarship and a former Financial Secretary of the NNPP Kano chapter.

In a related development, Governor Yusuf has appointed Barrister Salisu Muhammad Tahir as the new Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice. Prior to his appointment, he served as the Director of Public Prosecution within the ministry.

The Head of Service has been instructed to complete the administrative procedures for Barrister Tahir’s assumption of office by Monday, September 29, 2025.

Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to merit-based appointments, emphasizing “competence, professionalism, and integrity in public service.”
