Governor Alia flags off BIPC Eco-City Estate Project in Makurdi

Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia of Benue State has officially broken ground for the BIPC Eco-City Estate, located on the site of the former BBL Quarters in Makurdi, Benue State.

Speaking through his Deputy, Barrister Sam Ode, mni, Governor Alia reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to providing affordable housing for residents across the state. He emphasized that the broader vision is to transform Makurdi into a world-class urban center, with road infrastructure planned to connect the new estate for ease of movement.

Applauding the leadership of the Benue Investment and Property Company (BIPC), Governor Alia urged indigenes and investors to support the project, describing it as a significant milestone for the state’s housing sector.

Dr. Raymond Asemakaha-CFA, Group Managing Director of BIPC, revealed that the first two phases of the Eco-City development will feature 70 duplexes, while a third phase will focus on housing for low-income earners. He explained that the project aims to reduce the high cost of living in Makurdi and improve access to decent homes.

“We recognize that housing is expensive in Makurdi, and we are working to make it more affordable. In addition to this project, we have acquired thirty hectares along Gboko Road for a low-income housing estate,” Dr. Asemakaha said.

In a goodwill message, Secretary to the State Government, Dcns Deborah Aber, praised BIPC for its bold reforms in real estate and announced ongoing collaboration with the Federal Mortgage Bank to provide affordable homes for civil servants.

Providing technical details, Lucy Jato, General Manager of Real Estate and Infrastructure, noted that the estate will feature modern smart facilities and include four-bedroom detached houses.
