Governor Aliyu Commissions Tamaje Water Scheme, Targets Statewide Water Access
Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has officially commissioned the Tamaje Water Scheme, a major infrastructure project aimed at providing clean and reliable water to thousands of residents. The scheme is one of six major water initiatives currently being implemented by the state government, with a combined investment of over ₦14.1 billion.
During the commissioning ceremony held today, Governor Aliyu hailed the project as a critical step in addressing the persistent issue of water scarcity across the state. He underscored the significance of sustainable water infrastructure for improving public health, enhancing livelihoods, and supporting long-term economic growth.
The newly completed Tamaje facility is expected to transform daily life for residents by offering safe drinking water and reducing reliance on contaminated sources. Governor Aliyu reiterated his administration’s commitment to completing all six water projects by the end of the year, ensuring that every community benefits from improved access.
Local residents and community leaders welcomed the development with enthusiasm, calling it a “life-changing” achievement. They praised the government’s focus on basic infrastructure, noting that easier access to water will help combat waterborne diseases, reduce the physical burden on women and children, and promote better hygiene.
The state government also confirmed that systems are in place to maintain and sustain the water scheme over the long term, ensuring lasting impact for the Tamaje community and beyond.
