Group Urges Akpabio and Ogbuku to Fulfill Youth Empowerment Campaign Promises
The Niger Delta Youth Movement has called on Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), to act promptly on their promises of youth empowerment in the region.
During the recent Niger Delta Youth Conference in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, both Akpabio and Ogbuku pledged to provide comprehensive support to the region’s youth.
In a statement issued on Saturday by National President Ekene Frank in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, the group expressed gratitude for Akpabio’s supportive approach toward the region and urged him to follow through on his commitments.
Frank stated, “We sincerely thank Senate President Godswill Akpabio for his supportive relationship with the youth, as demonstrated at the Ethnic Nationalities Youth Conference organized by the NDDC. We also appreciate the NDDC management under Dr. Samuel Ogbuku for their pledge of comprehensive youth empowerment and urge that these promises be acted upon swiftly.”
Regarding the ongoing nationwide hunger protest, Frank praised the Niger Delta youth for choosing not to participate in the protest against President Tinubu’s administration. He noted that the youth recognize the administration’s efforts to address economic hardships and implement programs benefiting rural areas.
The statement continued, “The Niger Delta Youth Movement appreciates the region’s youth for not joining the protest against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. While acknowledging the economic difficulties, we have seen tangible efforts by the administration to alleviate these issues in the short term and work towards long-term economic recovery. Additionally, there are noticeable examples of good governance in our region through impactful programs.”
Frank also commended President Tinubu for his support of the Niger Delta region, highlighting the recent signing into law of the South East Development Commission, which he noted should have been done earlier.
