The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has issued a stern warning to Nigerians against engaging in multiple registrations during the upcoming Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.

Alhaji Mohammed Sadiq, INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Plateau State, gave the warning during a stakeholders’ meeting held to discuss the resumption of the nationwide voter registration process.

Sadiq emphasized that attempting to register more than once is a serious electoral offense and could lead to complete removal of the offender’s name from the voter register.

“Voter registration is not just a fundamental right, but also a civic duty for every eligible Nigerian,” he said. “No one can vote without being duly registered. Any attempt at multiple registration will not be tolerated and may result in total delisting from the register.”

He urged Nigerians who have recently turned 18, or are yet to register, to take advantage of the upcoming CVR to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

According to the REC, the CVR exercise will officially begin on August 18 with online registration. He encouraged eligible residents of Plateau State, especially those who have previously registered but are yet to collect their PVCs, to do so during the exercise.

“Online registration can be done from anywhere, at any time, via the official portal: http://www.crv.inecnigeria.org,” Sadiq explained.

He clarified that the CVR is meant for newly eligible voters (those aged 18 and above), individuals seeking to collect or transfer their PVCs, as well as those needing replacements for lost or damaged cards.

Sadiq further noted that INEC has put strict measures in place to prevent non-Nigerians from participating in the registration process.

He called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, political parties, and other key stakeholders to help raise awareness and encourage eligible residents to participate in the exercise, stressing its importance in strengthening Nigeria’s democratic process.
