IPOB Insists on Commemorating Biafra Day, Calls for Peaceful Observance
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has reiterated its commitment to observing Biafra Day in the South-East on May 30th, honoring those who perished during the Civil War from July 6, 1967, to January 15, 1970.
In a statement released by its media and publicity secretary, Emma Powerful, on Tuesday, the pro-Biafra group emphasized the significance of the day, declaring it a solemn occasion to remember Biafra’s fallen heroes and heroines.
IPOB urged all residents of Biafra territory to honor the day with a sit-at-home protest, emphasizing its importance and calling for full compliance. The group asserted its status as a key stakeholder in Biafra affairs and demanded that no government or security agency disrupt the peaceful commemoration.
The statement also called upon governors in Biafra Land to ensure the safety of individuals and properties during the remembrance day. Additionally, IPOB declared a ban on all social activities in the region on May 30th, including the closure of markets, schools, banks, and both government and private businesses.
