Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate from the 2023 general election, has urged government officials at all levels to create sustainable sources of livelihood for citizens to prevent tragic incidents like the recent tanker explosion in Jigawa State.

In a post on his official X account, Obi referred to the incident as a national tragedy and pledged to donate funds to support the victims. He expressed his condolences to Jigawa Governor Alhaji Umar Namadi Dan Modi and the residents affected by the explosion, which claimed over 180 lives and left more than 80 individuals hospitalized.

Highlighting the growing frequency of such tragedies in the country, Obi called for urgent prayers and interventions, urging stakeholders and governments to implement infrastructure and regulations that can help avert similar incidents in the future. He noted that many of those affected were young people in their prime, emphasizing the tragic loss.
