Kaduna Vigilance Commander Killed Amid Land Dispute at Yardoka Grazing Reserve
Saleh Shuaibu, popularly known as Saleh Fiya-Fiya, a local commander of the Kaduna State Vigilance Service (KADVIS), was killed on Sunday during a violent clash at the Yardoka Grazing Reserve in Kubau Local Government Area, Kaduna State.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama reported on X that the incident happened when Kaduna State government officials, accompanied by armed police and Department of State Services (DSS) operatives, attempted to enforce a directive to allocate over 200 hectares of land within the reserve to a private company.
The land, currently occupied by herder communities, sparked resistance due to claims of inadequate or disputed compensation. Protesters, armed with sticks and cutlasses, blocked the government delegation’s access.
During the standoff, Commander Shuaibu reportedly exited his vehicle to intervene but was attacked by the crowd and fatally stabbed.
This tragic event highlights escalating tensions between local communities and government-backed land allocations in grazing reserves.
As of now, state authorities have not released an official statement on the incident.
