Kano Assembly Suspends Rano LG Chairman Over Allegations of Misconduct

The Kano State House of Assembly has suspended the Chairman of Rano Local Government Area, Naziru Ya’u, for a period of three months, effective from August 13, 2025.

The decision followed a series of complaints from residents of the local government area, prompting the Assembly to take disciplinary action.

Providing details on the suspension, the Majority Leader of the House and Chairman of the Assembly’s Complaint Committee, Hon. Lawan Husaini Dala, stated that the move was in response to public outcry over the chairman’s alleged misconduct.

According to Dala, the complaints against Ya’u included accusations of impunity, lack of transparency in governance, and failure to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of Rano.

“The decision to suspend the chairman was not taken lightly,” Dala said. “It followed several petitions from the people of Rano who expressed dissatisfaction with his leadership style and governance approach.”

The Assembly assured residents that the matter would be thoroughly investigated during the suspension period, and appropriate measures will be taken based on the findings.
