Kebbi Govt Pledges Full Support to Military in Efforts to Rescue Abducted Schoolgirls
Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working closely with the military to ensure the safe return of 25 students abducted from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School (GGCSS) in Maga, Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area.
The governor made the remarks on Friday during a meeting with Minister of State for Defence Muhammad Bello Matawalle, who visited the Government House in Birnin-Kebbi alongside senior military officials. Idris also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for promptly directing Matawalle and top security personnel to Kebbi to oversee rescue operations.
Governor Idris disclosed that soldiers assigned to the school reportedly withdrew around 3:00 a.m., with the abduction occurring shortly after, at approximately 3:45 a.m. He called for a full military inquiry to determine who authorised the troop withdrawal and to prevent similar lapses in the future.
Minister Matawalle confirmed that top military commanders, including the Theatre Commander of Operation Fansan Yamma, Brigadier General Idris Warra, have been deployed to Kebbi. Troops have also been stationed at strategic points across Kebbi, Zamfara, and Niger States to block potential escape routes and accelerate the rescue of the abducted students.
The minister urged residents to remain calm and cooperate fully with security agencies to ensure the safe return of the girls.
