Labor unions decreased their request for a higher new minimum wage from N615,000 to N500,000 on Wednesday following a deadlock at the Tripartite Committee meeting the day before.

Professor Theophilus Ndubuaku, Deputy President of the Nigeria Labour Congress Political Commission, revealed this information during a private conversation with Nigeria News 247.

Ndubuaku explained that the labor group adjusted their demand in order to facilitate an agreement with the Federal Government. However, he expressed disappointment that despite their flexibility, negotiations with the FG were being delayed.

He confirmed that the price has indeed been lowered to N500,000, but lamented the lack of progress currently. Ndubuaku expressed dismay at the government’s apparent lack of empathy towards the public’s struggles with hardship and inflation resulting from its policies.

In response to a query about future actions if Wednesday’s meeting remains inconclusive, he suggested that they may advise Nigerian workers to stay home until a satisfactory offer is presented by the FG.
