The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olohundare Jimoh, has ordered a full forensic investigation into the death of former Ondo State governorship candidate, Mr. Bamidele Akingboye, following growing suspicions surrounding the circumstances of his passing.

The directive was issued after a graphic image of Akingboye’s corpse, showing visible bruises on his head, circulated on social media, sparking public concern and casting doubt on earlier reports that he died peacefully at his residence in Victoria Garden City (VGC), Lagos, on Wednesday.

In response to the controversy, human rights groups have called for a transparent and credible investigation to uncover the truth behind the incident.

Confirming the development via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, @LagosPoliceNG, on Sunday, the Lagos State Police Command said Commissioner Jimoh had tasked the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) with conducting a discreet probe.

“The Commissioner has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police, SCID, to discreetly investigate the death,” the statement read.

Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) operatives have since visited Akingboye’s residence, which has now been sealed off to preserve evidence. Forensic specialists are currently deploying advanced tools and techniques to collect and analyze materials from the scene.

Akingboye contested in the November 2024 Ondo State governorship election under the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), where he lost to the incumbent, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
