The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) has sealed two properties in the Ikoyi area for environmental violations, including the illegal discharge of raw sewage into public drainage systems and obstruction of official duties.

Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed the enforcement action in a statement posted on his official X handle on Monday.

One of the affected properties, located at No. 2 Kebbi Street, Osborne Foreshore Estate, Ikoyi, was shut down for deliberately releasing untreated wastewater into public drains. Wahab described the act as a serious public health risk and an environmental hazard.

“This act constitutes a public nuisance, contributes to environmental pollution, and poses a direct threat to human lives,” he stated.

Another property at the Mambilla Estate Gate within the same estate was also sealed for denying access to LSWMO officials despite multiple inspection notices. This action, Wahab noted, is a violation of the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law of 2017.

The commissioner urged Lagos residents to embrace responsible wastewater management and proper sanitation practices. He warned that the state government will not tolerate environmental infractions.

“Any conduct that results in environmental degradation or poses a danger to public health will attract strict penalties, including possible prosecution,” Wahab emphasized.
