Muhammed Babangida Declines Appointment as Chairman of Bank of Agriculture
Muhammed Babangida, son of former Nigerian military president Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida (IBB), has declined his recent appointment by President Bola Tinubu as Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture.
His decision was conveyed in a letter dated July 21, 2025, which was shared publicly by Ovation Magazine publisher Dele Momodu on Monday. In the letter titled “Declining Appointment as Chairman, Bank of Agriculture”, Muhammed cited both personal and professional reasons for turning down the offer.
“I wish to express my sincere gratitude for the honour of being considered and appointed as Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture,” the letter reads. “After careful reflection and consultation, I have decided, with utmost respect, to decline the appointment.”
He explained that the decision was based on circumstances that would not allow him to commit fully to the role, though he affirmed his support for President Tinubu’s administration and national development efforts.
“I remain fully committed to the vision of a prosperous and self-sufficient Nigeria under your leadership,” he stated.
Reacting to the development, Dele Momodu, who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), commented on Instagram: “Well done, Muhammed, for rejecting a Greek gift.”
Muhammed was among several individuals appointed by President Tinubu just two days earlier. The ADC has since criticized the appointment, accusing the president of attempting to win political favor in Northern Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections.
