Nationwide Protest: Group Claims Plot to Arrest Peter Obi
The Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR) has condemned what it calls “wild, wicked, and baseless allegations” made by Bayo Onanuga, a spokesperson in the Presidency. Onanuga had accused Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, of masterminding a planned protest in the country and suggested that Obi should be held responsible for any resulting violence.
In response, Yunusa Tanko, POMR’s spokesman, issued a statement asserting that these unsubstantiated claims are part of a scheme to arrest Obi, curtail his freedoms, and hinder his advocacy for good governance.
POMR emphasized that Peter Obi has consistently demonstrated a commitment to non-violence and issue-based campaigning, even when provoked. The group highlighted that Obi has maintained a focus on addressing issues rather than engaging in personal attacks.
The statement further alleged that various “attack dogs” have been employed to undermine Obi’s influence and distract the Nigerian public from critical issues. POMR accused these detractors of spreading falsehoods to create confusion and shift blame for significant challenges, such as fuel subsidy issues, rising poverty, inflation, and nepotism, onto Obi.
POMR urged Nigerians to dismiss the Presidency’s allegations as mere blackmail, affirming that Obi and the Obidient movement remain steadfast in their pursuit of a better Nigeria and will not be deterred from their mission.
