The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has suspended two pilots of ValueJet Airline for a serious violation of safety protocols at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

According to a statement issued by Michael Achimugu, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the NCAA, the incident occurred on Friday, August 5, 2025, at the airport’s domestic terminal.

Preliminary findings revealed that the aircraft’s captain initiated departure from the designated bay without completing the mandatory pre-departure clearance.

Describing the incident as “reckless,” the NCAA stated that the actions of the pilot endangered the lives of ground personnel and other airport users, violating both national aviation regulations and international safety standards.

As a result, the licences of Captain Oluranti Ogoyi and First Officer Ivan Oloba have been suspended with immediate effect, pending the outcome of a full investigation.

“The suspension is effective immediately and will remain in place until the investigation is completed,” the statement noted.
