The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has dismissed claims that Governor Dapo Abiodun referred to Nigerians as sore losers over the ongoing #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest, calling the accusation a fabrication.

Instead, the Ogun State Government clarified that Abiodun was referring to certain 2023 election losers exploiting Nigerian youths’ dissent to destabilize the country.

In a statement by the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Kayode Akinmade, it was emphasized that the governor did not insult ordinary Nigerians airing grievances over the economic situation. Akinmade explained that Abiodun had been misrepresented and stressed that the governor respects the youth, students, and workers.

Abiodun had praised Ogun residents, particularly the youth, for avoiding violent protests and assured them of his administration’s commitment to their well-being. The statement also clarified that Abiodun’s mention of “sore losers” referred to opposition leaders misusing the protest to incite unrest. It was noted that the governor supports peaceful protests and respects the democratic right to protest.

Akinmade added that while the governor encourages peaceful expression, the state will not tolerate the disruption of law and order. The statement concluded by reiterating Abiodun’s respect for those peacefully protesting and condemning the misrepresentation of his comments.
