NCDC Issues Public Health Advisory Over Ebola Outbreak in DRC
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has released a public health advisory following the confirmation of an Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
In a statement posted on Facebook on Saturday, the NCDC noted that no cases have been reported in Nigeria but assured the public that it is closely monitoring the situation to ensure early detection and preparedness.
As part of its advisory, the agency urged Nigerians to adopt preventive measures, including regular handwashing with soap under running water, avoiding contact with individuals showing symptoms such as fever, vomiting, diarrhoea, or unexplained bleeding, and refraining from consuming bushmeat. It also advised that all animal products be thoroughly cooked before consumption.
Healthcare professionals were reminded to follow strict infection prevention and control measures, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) when treating patients.
Individuals who have recently traveled to affected regions and begin experiencing symptoms are encouraged to call the NCDC hotline on 6232 or contact their State Ministry of Health without delay.
The full advisory can be accessed on the official NCDC website.
