Ndume Rejects Senate Committee on Tourism Chairmanship, Criticizes Removal as Chief Whip
Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, declined the chairmanship of the Senate Committee on Tourism on Friday.
Ndume made the announcement at his home in Maiduguri, Borno State, just 48 hours after being removed as the Senate Chief Whip.
NIGERIA NEWS 247 reports that Ndume was removed from his position after criticizing President Bola Tinubu. Ndume expressed that, upon reviewing the incident that led to his removal, he felt his actions did not justify the punishment.
He explained that he declined the chairmanship of the Tourism Committee due to a lack of experience and exposure in that area.
Ndume stated that he was given the opportunity to choose a committee to serve as vice chairman, having played a key role in the campaign that led to Godswill Akpabio’s election as Senate President.
Regarding rumors of his potential resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ndume confirmed he would remain in the party, emphasizing his status as a founding member. He highlighted that he was one of 22 senators from the PDP who helped form the APC when the current national chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, was a deputy governor in Kano State.
