Nigeria Nominates Dr. Taoheed Elias for International Court of Justice

Nigeria has officially nominated Dr. Taoheed Olufemi Elias as its candidate for election to the International Court of Justice (ICJ), according to a statement by Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar on Tuesday via his X account.

Announcing the nomination, Tuggar described Dr. Elias as one of the most esteemed figures in international law, highlighting his extensive legal scholarship, decades of global service, and unwavering commitment to justice, equity, and the rule of law.

“His contributions reflect the core principles on which the ICJ was founded and align with the values of the United Nations Charter,” Tuggar stated.

He emphasized that the nomination underscores Nigeria’s commitment to a rules-based international system where justice is impartial and all nations have an equal voice in shaping global peace and security.
