Nigerian Government Aware of Policies Targeting Christian Persecution, Prefers media manipulation – Senator Ted Cruz

United States Senator Ted Cruz has claimed that the Nigerian government is aware of policies fueling the persecution of Christians in the country but is prioritizing media spin over accountability.

In a statement posted on X on Friday, Cruz said, “Nigerian officials know their policies have created an environment in which Christians are being persecuted and slaughtered, including their enforcement of sharia law and their tolerance of Islamist violence. Instead of reversing these policies, they are waging a media campaign to escape exposure and accountability. I intend to prevent them from doing so.”

Cruz’s comments come in the wake of recent discussions by Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, on Piers Morgan Uncensored, addressing allegations of a Christian genocide in the country.

Earlier this year, former US President Donald Trump designated Nigeria as a country of particular concern, citing ongoing violence against Christians and what he described as the Nigerian government’s failure to protect religious minorities. Trump also indicated he had asked the Department of Defense to prepare for potential military action if such violence persisted.

The Nigerian government has strongly denied claims of persecution against any religious group.
