Nigerian Govt Vows to Reciprocate US Visa Restrictions on American Applicants

In reaction to the United States’ new visa regulations requiring applicants to disclose social media history and online activities, Nigeria has pledged to introduce similar requirements for American citizens applying for Nigerian visas.

Kimiebi Ebienfa, spokesman for Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, confirmed the government’s plan to adopt reciprocal measures and announced an upcoming inter-agency meeting involving the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Interior, and National Intelligence Agency to formulate a coordinated response.

The US recently mandated Nigerian visa applicants to disclose their social media activity from the past five years, with non-compliance potentially leading to visa denial or lifetime bans.
