Nigerian Workers Reject FG’s New N58,000 Minimum Wage Offer, Propose N497,000
Nigerian workers, represented by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), have rejected the Federal Government’s new minimum wage offer of N58,000.
According to Channels Television, sources within the NLC revealed this information on Wednesday. The report noted that organized labour has also revised their minimum wage demand, lowering it from N615,000 to N497,000.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Federal Government proposed a minimum wage of N54,000 to organized labour. This followed an offer of N48,000 the previous week, which led to a walkout by Nigerian workers.
In an interview with Politics Today on Tuesday, NLC president Joe Ajaero criticized the government’s offer as insufficient. “It is still not substantial compared to what we need to make a family moving,” he stated.
Initially, organized labour had proposed raising the minimum wage from N30,000 to N615,000, citing the current economic challenges faced by Nigerians.
