Mr. Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, highlighted Nigeria’s dearth of courageous individuals who can speak truth to power during his speech on Saturday at the 10th anniversary of the Alaigbo Development Foundation in Umuahia, Abia State.

Obi expressed concern over the prevalence of sycophancy among the populace, noting that many tend to tell leaders what they want to hear rather than speaking truthfully. Drawing from his tenure as the former governor of Anambra State, he emphasized the importance of judiciously managing public funds and using them solely for the benefit of the people.

He called on public leaders to prioritize people-centric policies and initiatives aimed at fostering public peace. Obi attributed Nigeria’s challenges to the excessive greed and unquenchable thirst for wealth among those in public office.

In challenging Nigerians to speak truth to power and refrain from idolizing leaders, Obi underscored the responsibility of leaders to heed the voices of the people who elected them.

“When I held public office, I ensured that public funds were utilized for public purposes. I didn’t use a single Kobo for personal gain, nor did I default on pensions, gratuities, or contractor payments. Now in private life, I have the liberty to manage my finances as I see fit,” Obi affirmed.
