NiMet forecasts Three Days of Thunderstorms and Rain Across Nigeria

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted rainy and thundery conditions across various parts of Nigeria from Monday to Wednesday, October 6–8, 2025.

According to NiMet’s outlook released on Sunday in Abuja, Monday morning will see thunderstorms with moderate rainfall in northern states including Jigawa, Zamfara, Kano, Kaduna, Bauchi, Yobe, and Katsina. Rains are expected later in the day in Kebbi, Adamawa, and Taraba.

The agency warned of possible flash floods in Bauchi, Jigawa, Katsina, Kaduna, and Kano during this period.

In the central region—covering Niger, Benue, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Plateau, and Nasarawa—morning cloudiness and light to moderate rainfall are expected, with high flood risks in parts of Plateau.

The southern states forecast calls for light to moderate rains affecting Ondo, Imo, Abia, Enugu, Ebonyi, Anambra, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom.

On Tuesday, sunny skies with patchy clouds are expected in the north, though thunderstorms and rain will continue in parts of Adamawa, Taraba, and neighboring states. Moderate rainfall will persist across central and southern regions.

By Wednesday, northern states will experience sunshine with morning thunderstorms, while the central region will see cloudy skies with moderate rains. Southern states such as Ebonyi, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Cross River will face morning showers followed by moderate to heavy rains later in the day.

NiMet has urged residents in flood-prone areas to activate emergency plans, avoid driving in heavy rains, secure loose objects, and take precautions against strong winds and low night temperatures. The agency also advised disconnecting electrical appliances during storms and avoiding shelter under tall trees for safety.
