Nnamdi Kanu: Family Speaks Out After Life Imprisonment Verdict
The family of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has shared fresh updates on his condition following the life sentence handed down to him by the Federal High Court in Abuja.
NIGERIA NEWS 247 reported that the Biafra agitator was on Thursday sentenced to life imprisonment after being found guilty of terrorism-related offences. The ruling by Justice James K. Omotosho sparked widespread outrage across the country.
In a statement posted on Facebook, Kanu’s brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, revealed that he met with the IPOB leader shortly after the judgement was delivered.
According to him, Kanu reacted with amusement to the ruling and questioned the legal basis on which he was convicted.
“Following my meeting with Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, I asked for his thoughts on the judgement by James K. Omotosho,” he wrote.
“His response was laughter, accompanied by a question regarding the plausibility of Omotosho’s authority to convict him under a repealed law — thereby invalidating all actions.”
The family’s update comes amid ongoing tensions and calls for legal clarification following the controversial verdict.
