The National Orientation Agency (NOA) highlights Fake News and Hate Speech as Significant Threats to National Peace

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has once again emphasized the dangers posed by the spread of fake news and hate speech to Nigeria’s unity and progress.

Mrs. Regina Iroha, the State Director of NOA for Abia State, raised concerns over the unchecked dissemination and acceptance of unverified news among Nigerians. She expressed worry that such trends could incite discord within communities and across the wider society.

During a courtesy visit to the palace of Eze Sunday Kalu Okpi, the traditional ruler of Ovukwu Abam autonomous community in Arochukwu LGA, Mrs. Iroha reaffirmed NOA’s role as a vital link between the federal government and Nigerian citizens. She urged all communities to prioritize peace and cautioned against misinformation, which she warned could hinder development.

Mrs. Iroha informed the traditional ruler and his council about NOA’s ongoing efforts to engage key stakeholders and promote a culture of peace. She encouraged residents to verify information and fact-check news stories that could potentially sow discord.

In response, Eze Sunday Kalu Okpi acknowledged NOA’s pivotal role in bridging the gap between the government and rural communities. He expressed concern over the detrimental effects of fake news and hate speech and pledged to educate his subjects about the repercussions of such behaviors.
