Dr. Doyin Okupe, former Director General of the Peter Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Organisation, praised President Bola Tinubu’s administration, asserting that Tinubu has consistently met the expectations of Nigerians.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Okupe commended Tinubu’s handling of the nation’s economic challenges and his commitment to key issues such as debt reduction and social welfare.

Responding to Tinubu’s national broadcast on economic hardship, Okupe highlighted the administration’s achievements and ongoing efforts to stabilize the economy and improve living conditions.

“President Bola Tinubu’s speech has not disappointed Nigerians. For the first time, the President clearly outlined the precarious economic situation his administration inherited,” Okupe stated.

He emphasized the government’s efforts to reduce the crippling debt servicing ratio from 97 percent to 68 percent, noting that this was crucial to avoid massive borrowing if the fuel subsidy had not been removed.

Okupe also pointed out the administration’s notable achievements, including increasing the minimum wage from N30,000 to N70,000 per month, committing over N45 billion to the student loan scheme, boosting national oil production to over 1.6 million barrels per day, and providing significant funding for MSMEs and youth development programs.

In a statement published on his X handle, @doyinokupe, and obtained by NIGERIA NEWS 247, Okupe praised the government’s commitment to reducing the cost of living and food inflation through temporary food importation and tax reductions on essential goods.

“It is noteworthy that this administration’s performance compares favorably with many previous administrations,” he added.

Okupe urged Nigerians to hold state and local governments accountable for their revenue inflows and acknowledged the President’s recognition of citizens’ right to protest.

“This speech has dispelled the misinformation about President Tinubu’s ability to handle economic challenges. It has renewed our hope for a brighter future for all Nigerians,” Okupe concluded.
