Political analysts Jideofor Adibe and Sani Yabagi shared their views on the return to the old national anthem, “Nigeria, We Hail Thee.” They were guests on Channels Television’s May 29 Special program commemorating the first anniversary of President Bola Tinubu.

Adibe questioned the significance of changing the national anthem at such a crucial time, likening it to “shadowboxing,” emphasizing the need to focus on more substantial issues like the economy.

Yabagi suggested that the reintroduction of the old anthem might offer a sense of relief to Nigerians amidst economic challenges, highlighting the importance of understanding and appreciating Nigeria’s identity. However, he expressed reservations about reverting to an anthem with colonial origins, advocating for a more culturally resonant anthem.
