Niger State Governor, Muhammad Umaru Bago’s recent assertion that the state is free from hardship has drawn sharp criticism from opposition leader Yahaya Ability of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Governor Bago reportedly made the claim during a national television appearance, stating that residents are enjoying the benefits of his administration and that no hardship exists in Niger State.

However, Ability dismissed the governor’s comments as “misleading and disconnected” from the realities faced by the people. He pointed to a recent bandit attack in Gidan Kwaruru near Rijiyan Nagwamatse, close to Kontagora, as evidence of persistent security challenges contradicting the governor’s narrative.

“During the attack near Kontagora, motorists were held hostage for nearly an hour until security forces intervened. This clearly demonstrates ongoing insecurity in the state,” Ability said.

He described the statement as political propaganda, emblematic of what he called the deceptive nature of the ruling APC government.

“We encourage Nigerians to verify the governor’s claims directly from the people living in the state,” he added.

Ability urged citizens to weigh the governor’s statements against their personal experiences, emphasizing that “hardship and insecurity remain significant challenges in Niger State.”

He further accused the APC administration of failing to provide meaningful support, widening the gap between government promises and the realities of everyday life for citizens.
