President Tinubu authorizes the creation of the National Health Fellows Program.
President Bola Tinubu has authorized the establishment of the National Health Fellows Programme, which will engage young Nigerian fellows in all 774 local government areas across the country.
This decision was conveyed in a statement by Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, released on Monday in Abuja.
Ngelale highlighted that Tinubu’s initiative aims to comprehensively upgrade existing primary healthcare centers and construct over 8,800 new ones in all local government areas nationwide.
The primary objective is to enhance accessible and qualitative healthcare delivery through the provision of new social accountability mechanisms.
The well-trained fellows will serve as fiduciary agents tasked with monitoring and tracking the development and performance of Primary Healthcare Centers. Their performance will be measured against all financial inflows to the centers nationwide.
“The fellowship program will be housed in the Sector Wide Approach (SWA) coordination office under the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.
The fellows will be recruited, remunerated, and equipped with appropriate tools to track the performance of Basic Health Care Provision Fund-supported health facilities across the nation,” Ngelale stated.
Tinubu, serving as the African Union Champion for Human Resources in Healthcare, expressed confidence in young Nigerians and anticipated their involvement in this crucial nation-building endeavor.
The program will include daily monitoring and tracking of health reforms in their respective locations, ushering in a new era of world-class service provision to Nigerians.
