President Tinubu Issues New Directives to Reduce Cost of Governance
ABUJA, NIGERIA NEWS 247 – President Bola Tinubu has announced new restrictions for Ministers, Ministers of State, and Heads of Agencies of the Federal Government, limiting their official convoys to a maximum of three vehicles.
In a statement released today by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, it was made clear that no additional vehicles will be allocated for their movements.
This cost-cutting measure aligns with President Tinubu’s ongoing efforts to reduce government expenditure. Earlier this year, he made significant changes to his own travel arrangements, cutting his entourage on foreign trips from 50 officials to just 20.
For domestic travel, the number was reduced to 25 officials. Similarly, the Vice President’s entourage was trimmed to five officials for international trips and 15 for local engagements.
In today’s directive, President Tinubu also mandated that all ministers, ministers of state, and agency heads should have a maximum of five security personnel assigned to them.
This security team will consist of four police officers and one officer from the Department of State Services (DSS). The President emphasized that no additional security personnel will be permitted.
Moreover, he instructed the National Security Adviser to collaborate with military, paramilitary, and security agencies to assess and implement further reductions in vehicle and security personnel deployments for these officials.
All affected officials are expected to adhere to these new regulations immediately, reflecting the administration’s commitment to fiscal responsibility and efficient governance.
This directive underscores the urgency of these changes and the government’s intention to set an example in managing public resources effectively.
