The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, urged members of the Organised Labour to approach their demands regarding the national minimum wage and the restoration of old electricity tariffs with caution.

Speaking at the National Executive Council meeting of the Christian Association of Nigeria in Abuja on Thursday, Akume criticized the shutdown of the National Grid by members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), labeling it as treasonable felony.

Reaffirming President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to improving the welfare of Nigerians, the SGF expressed concern over the loss of revenue incurred by the Federal Government due to the actions of the Organised Labour.

The Senate also voiced concern over the consequences of the National Grid shutdown and disruptions to hajj flights, among other actions taken by the Organised Labour during the nationwide strike for a new minimum wage.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio emphasized on Tuesday that shutting down the grid amounted to economic sabotage rather than a means of agitation.

Labour shut down the National Grid on Monday and restored it on Tuesday after easing its industrial action to push for new minimum wage demands.
