Simon Ekpa, a self-proclaimed Prime Minister of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has filed a lawsuit against his former associate, Ngozi Orabueze, at the United States District Court for the District of Columbia in Washington.

According to reports by Peoples Gazette, the lawsuit arises from allegations involving the creation of a rival faction of the Biafra Republic Government in Exile (BRGIE) and the alleged unauthorized takeover of the group’s membership database.

Ekpa, who is currently in pre-trial detention in Finland on terrorism-related charges, is seeking financial compensation including punitive damages, attorney’s fees, and other related legal costs. The suit was filed by U.S.-based attorney Arman Dabiri on behalf of both BRGIE and Ekpa.

Ngozi Orabueze is listed as the lead defendant in the case, alongside other alleged co-conspirators: Ada Ezeh, Diana Emeh Solomon Nkwocha, Ugbonna Christian Olejemah, Uchenna Objijiaku, and Ijeoma Eze, among others.

In the court filings, Dabiri accused Orabueze and the others of orchestrating a hostile takeover of BRGIE, setting up a competing leadership structure, misappropriating member data, and committing acts of fraud.

The legal dispute reportedly began in December 2024.
