Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has ordered security agencies to treat individuals serving as informants to bandits with the same severity as the criminals themselves.

The governor issued the directive during a condolence visit to Wurno and Rabah Local Government Areas, which were recently targeted in deadly bandit attacks. He described informants as “unpatriotic citizens selling out their communities for peanuts.”

Governor Aliyu urged rural residents to be vigilant and report anyone suspected of aiding bandits. He also called on Islamic clerics to use sermons and prayers to educate the public on the dangers of colluding with criminal elements.

He highlighted ongoing state efforts to combat insecurity, including:

  • Deployment of over 170 patrol vehicles and motorcycles;

  • Increased allowances for security personnel posted to high-risk areas;

  • Establishment of the Sokoto State Community Guard Corps to boost local surveillance and rapid response.

Aliyu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to securing lives and property, vowing that those undermining peace and security in the state will face the full weight of the law.
