‘Strike Continues Pending Tuesday Review Meeting’, Says NLC
Most business activities were grounded on Monday following commencement of the nationwide strike by labour unions.
The NLC has announced its intention to persist with the ongoing nationwide strike initiated on Monday until the results of its upcoming meeting with internal bodies on Tuesday are determined.
The labor union announced on Tuesday that they will remain on strike until feedback is received from their members at the scheduled meeting today, June 4th.
The statement was made following a meeting between the Federal Government and various labor unions, where it was agreed that a minimum wage higher than N60,000 would be implemented. Moving forward, the tripartite committee will convene daily over the next week to reach a consensus on the national minimum wage.
The NLC announced that it would convene with its committees today and assured that no employee would face repercussions for participating in the strike.
The declaration was co-signed by Joe Ajaero, the President of the NLC, and Festus Osifo, the President of TUC. The nationwide labor strikes on Monday led to the shutdown of operations in numerous sectors such as businesses, airports, schools, banks, and public institutions.
