The Senate removes Ndume as Chief Whip following his criticism of Tinubu’s government.
The Nigerian Senate has removed Mohamed Ali Ndume, the Chief Whip of the Senate and Senator representing Borno South.
The upper chamber replaced Ndume with Tahir Mungono, the lawmaker representing Borno North. His removal followed criticisms of President Bola Tinubu’s government.
Ndume recently gave an interview to BBC Hausa where he criticized Tinubu over food insecurity in the country. He told the BBC that the president has shut his doors against his ministers.
During plenary on Wednesday, the removal of Ndume was sponsored by lawmakers of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who formed the majority.
Godswill Akpabio read a letter of complaint from the APC, noting that Ndume’s utterances were unbecoming of a lawmaker. When put to a voice vote, several lawmakers voted in favor, and he was replaced.
