President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in Katsina State to attend the funeral of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away earlier this week. The president’s arrival was marked by a somber atmosphere, heightened security, and a large turnout of state officials, dignitaries, and local residents paying their final respects.
Upon arrival at the Umaru Musa Yar’adua International Airport, President Tinubu was received by Katsina State Governor Dikko Umar Radda and other top government officials. From there, he proceeded to Daura, Buhari’s hometown, where funeral rites are being conducted.
The late Muhammadu Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s president from 2015 to 2023, was a central figure in the country’s political history. Renowned for his anti-corruption efforts and military background, Buhari remained a prominent voice in national affairs even after leaving office. His death has prompted an outpouring of condolences from within Nigeria and abroad, underlining his enduring influence on governance and national security.
In a tribute, President Tinubu described Buhari as “a patriot, a statesman, and a leader whose contributions to Nigeria will never be forgotten.” He called on Nigerians to honor Buhari’s memory by fostering unity and renewing their commitment to building a stronger nation.
The funeral proceedings include Islamic burial rites, special prayers, and a state-organized memorial—reflecting the late leader’s deep religious faith and the nation’s respect for his service.
