President Bola Tinubu has mandated that all government ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) must acquire vehicles powered by compressed natural gas to support energy security, enhance efficiency, and reduce expensive fuel expenses.

In a statement released by Presidential spokesperson Ajuri Ngelale on Monday evening, it was noted that the President’s instruction aligns with Nigeria’s commitment to shifting towards cleaner energy. CNG-powered vehicles are recognized for their reduced emissions and cost-effective appeal, making them a favorable option for energy consumers in Nigeria.

Speaking to the Federal Executive Council (FEC) at the State House in Abuja on Monday, President Tinubu reassured members that his administration was fully committed to the energy reforms and there would be no retreat from this path.

If we persist in staying stagnant, our country cannot move forward. As public officials, we have the determination to promote the widespread use of CNG nationwide. By taking the lead in this initiative, we pave the way for a better future for our citizens. Our commitment will inspire Nigerians to join us on this path towards progress, emphasized the President.

The President instructed the FEC members to dismiss any proposals suggesting the purchase of traditional gasoline vehicles and instead focus on finding cost-effective CNG-compliant vehicles.

The President’s commitment to maximizing the country’s gas resources, reducing transportation expenses for the public, and improving the quality of life for all Nigerians was reiterated in the statement.
