This week’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting has been postponed to an unspecified date. Our correspondent observed at the Council Chamber that while some ministers were present, key figures including President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, and Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume had not yet arrived.

By 12:15 pm, ministers began collecting their documents and leaving the chamber.

A minister, speaking anonymously to NIGERIA NEWS 247, confirmed that the meeting has been rescheduled, though the new date has not been announced.

“It is no longer happening today. The council typically meets on Mondays only if there are matters to discuss,” the minister explained.

The reason for the postponement was not disclosed, but sources close to the Presidency indicated that the meeting notice was issued on Sunday night and the postponement was communicated shortly before noon. Some ministers reportedly received the update late.

One source mentioned, “The ministers were not supposed to be here because the meeting was postponed. It seems they received the notice very late. The meeting itself was an afterthought as the notice was issued last night.”

Another source close to the President confirmed that while the FEC meeting was postponed, President Tinubu is scheduled to meet with Service Chiefs at 2:00 pm to discuss the ongoing nationwide protests and other issues.

“Yes, the FEC meeting was postponed, but there will be a security briefing at 2:00 pm,” the source said.

Protests under the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria banner continue for a fifth day, with demonstrators gathering in cities such as Lagos, Abuja, and Kaduna. President Tinubu had urged for dialogue and an end to the protests, asserting that his administration is prepared to address the protesters’ concerns.
