President Bola Tinubu has ousted Chukwuemeka Woke from his position as Managing Director (MD) of the Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority (OORBDA).
Chief of Staff to the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, Woke previously served under Governor Tinubu as the head of the authority.
His appointment on May 9, 2024, sparked protests from various groups and individuals who argued that it violated principles of diversity and regional representation.
On Wednesday, Ajuri Ngelale, the presidential spokesperson, disclosed that Dr. Adedeji Ashiru would be taking over from Woke.
Ngelale mentioned that Woke was reassigned to the role of Director-General Chief Executive Officer at the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA) by Tinubu.
The statement highlighted Woke’s background as an engineer, environmental expert, and politician with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Petrochemical Engineering.
He had previously worked in various capacities within the Environmental, Safety, and Operations Departments of the former Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
For an extended period, Dr. Ashiru served as both the Chairman of Emohua Local Government Area in Rivers State and the Chief of Staff at Government House in Port Harcourt.
With a Doctorate degree in Engineering from the Common Wealth University, UK, he has overseen a consortium of top-tier companies and achieved significant success in his career.
The President anticipates that the newly appointed Chief Executive Officers will utilize their skills to enhance these crucial agencies for long-term growth and improvement, all while upholding transparency in their operations.
