1. On Friday, a Federal High Court in Kano awarded N10 million in compensation to Emir Aminu Ado Bayero following the order for his arrest and eviction from the palace. Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had dethroned Ado Bayero last month, giving him 48 hours to hand over power.

2. Organized labor seems to have softened its stance on the demand for a N250,000 minimum wage. Trade Union Congress (TUC) President Festus Osifo stated yesterday that the N250,000 figure was not fixed, indicating labor’s openness to adjustments.

3. President Bola Tinubu has called for increased collaboration between Nigeria’s law enforcement agencies and the United States’ Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to combat cybercrime, terrorism, and related crimes. During a meeting with FBI Director Christopher Wray at the State House, President Tinubu highlighted the importance of partnership in fighting financial crimes and terrorism.

4. The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has seized hard drugs and unwholesome pharmaceutical products imported from India and Canada. Comptroller General of Customs Adewale Adeniyi announced in Lagos on Friday that the seized drugs are valued at N4.1 billion.

5. The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) inaugurated its Campaign Council for the September 21st governorship election on Friday evening. The party promised victory and urged all members to see themselves as part of the Council.

6. Nearly two weeks after a mine collapse in Shiroro, Niger State trapped over 50 miners, another mine collapse occurred on Thursday, killing three people and injuring one. The state Ministry of Mineral Resources disclosed on Thursday that efforts to rescue the miners trapped in the Shiroro mine are ongoing, lamenting the lack of assistance from multinational rescue firms.

7. A rainstorm early on Friday caused significant damage at the Plateau State Specialists Hospital in Jos, leaving doctors and other health officials stranded. Chief Medical Director Prof. Christopher Yilgwan confirmed the situation in Jos on Friday.

8. The Ogun State Police Command has launched a search for the body of Francis Danjuma, a 32-year-old son of a police officer, who reportedly drowned in the Ogun River. Danjuma, a resident of the Isheri Olofin community, had left his house around 2:00 p.m. on June 12, 2024, to bathe in the river.

9. Vice-President Kashim Shettima has called for cooperation between the government and business leaders, arguing that politics is too important to be left solely to politicians. He stressed that such collaboration is essential for driving Nigeria’s economic growth and prosperity.

10. The Federal Government has cautioned Nigerians against investing in the cryptocurrency token launched by music star David Adeleke, known as Davido. Last month, Davido announced the launch of a crypto token inspired by himself. However, on Friday, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) warned that investing in the memecoin is highly risky.
