1. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) reported on Tuesday that, as of July 15, 2024, it has recorded 3,623 suspected cholera cases and 103 deaths across 34 states and the Federal Capital Territory. NCDC Director General Dr. Jide Idris revealed at a press briefing in Abuja that the outbreak has spread to 187 local government areas, resulting in a cumulative case fatality rate of 2.8 percent since the beginning of the year.
2. The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) threatened on Tuesday to shut down the country for a month in protest against the National Assembly’s plans to deregulate the national minimum wage. This threat comes as the nation awaits a new national minimum wage following months of negotiations between Organized Labour, the Federal Government, and the Organized Private Sector.
3. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has arrested and charged tech entrepreneur Kingsley Inegbedion for his alleged involvement in romance scams and business email compromise schemes. Between April 2020 and May 2023, Inegbedion and his accomplice, Efemena Igbe, who remains at large, posed as legitimate business owners to defraud American citizens.
4. A High Court in Asaba, Delta State, has sentenced Onuwa Ijie to death and his accomplice, Nwanozie Uzor, to 14 years in prison for the murder and conspiracy to murder twin boys, Chidalu and Chigozie Agwunobi. Justice Onome Marshal Umukoro presided over the court, sentencing the two for the murder of the seven-year-old boys.
5. The power struggle between Victor Oko-Jumbo-led members of the Rivers State House of Assembly and 27 lawmakers led by Speaker Martins Amaewhule continued on Tuesday. The three-member House, presided over by Oko-Jumbo, issued a counter-resolution against the previous resolution by the 27 lawmakers, which barred Governor Siminalayi Fubara from further spending money from the state’s Consolidated Revenue Fund.

7. The House of Representatives has lost another member, Rep. Ekene Abubakar Adams, representing Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency of Kaduna State. According to a statement by House Spokesperson Rep. Akin Rotimi Jr on Tuesday, Adams died early Tuesday at the age of 39.
8. A Federal High Court in Abuja issued a bench warrant on Tuesday for the arrest of Dr. Abraham Ehizojie, the medical doctor at the Kuje Correctional Centre’s health facility. The warrant was issued due to his alleged refusal to produce the medical report of Tigran Gambaryan, the detained executive of Binance Holdings Ltd.
9. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has instructed Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Christopher Musa to curb crude oil theft and vandalism in the Niger Delta region in the shortest possible time. Tinubu emphasized that the order is necessary as oil theft has become a national issue that needs to be addressed to boost oil production in the country.
10. The Senate suspended all legislative activities yesterday to honor the deceased Reps member, Ekene Adams. Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced Adams’ death during the plenary.
