1. The Presidency has attributed the current economic crisis in Nigeria to the actions of previous administrations, not the present government. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, stated this in response to a New York Times article on the Nigerian economy.

2. Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, has urged all levels of government to intensify efforts to alleviate the nation’s current hardships. In his Sallah sermon after the Eid prayer at Fakon Idi, the monarch highlighted the severe challenges and hardships facing Nigerians.

3. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu emphasized the need for citizen sacrifice to realize the dreams of Nigeria’s founding fathers. He made this statement while addressing journalists following the Eid-el-Kabir prayers at Dodan Barracks, Lagos.

4. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has created a special account with a $2.9 billion deposit to stabilize the foreign exchange market. Known as the Gazelle Funding Account, this initiative was revealed during the recent Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) meeting.

6. The Ondo State Police Command is investigating the deaths of a man and his girlfriend, identified as Eric and his yet-to-be-identified partner, who were found dead in a new apartment in Ayeyemi on Thursday.

7. The Special Offences Court in Ikeja, Lagos State, has sentenced Ugwu Chijioke and Ibrahim Adekunle to a combined 46 years in prison for impersonating Economic and Financial Crimes Commission operatives and executing a fake court order, as reported by the EFCC on its Facebook page.

8. At least six people were killed and over 100 abducted in a suspected gunmen attack on a Sokoto State community early Sunday. Police spokesman Ahmed Rufai confirmed the casualties and abductions in Tudun Doki, Gwadabawa Local Government Area.

9. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency arrested siblings Kelechi Nwaobasi and Chinwe Nwaobasi in Abia, recovering cocaine and methamphetamine worth over N4.1 billion during a special investigation conducted on June 13 and 14, 2024.

10. The FCT police arrested Muhammad Kabir for allegedly attempting to kidnap his neighbor, Abdulwahab Yusuf, at Shagari Quarters in Zuba, Gwagwalada Area Council. Kabir and three others, who recently moved from Kogi State, were reportedly squatting in the community’s central mosque and soliciting alms.
