1. Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, announced that the 23 local government councils in the state will operate from an alternative secretariat following the police sealing the councils on Tuesday. After swearing in the 23 local government caretaker committee chairmen on Wednesday in Port Harcourt, he stated that they could operate from any location.

2. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) may declare an emergency on the cholera outbreak in the country, said NCDC Director General, Dr. Jide Idris, on Wednesday in Lagos. The centre is monitoring the situation and may declare an emergency if the outbreak surpasses a manageable threshold.

3. The Ogun State Police Command has launched a manhunt for a suspected hit-and-run driver who killed two male travelers, Yahaya Suleiman and Emeka, by knocking them off the overhead bridge at the Kara Market on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

4. The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, on Wednesday, condemned the killings in the South-East linked to the group’s secession agitation. He also called for an out-of-court settlement of his ongoing treason trial by the Federal Government.

6. Over 900 pilgrims died from heatwave during the five days’ activities for the 2024 Hajj. Reports indicate that the extreme heat in Saudi Arabia resulted in the deaths of at least 600 Egyptians.

7. A Federal High Court in Abuja refused to grant bail to suspended DCP Abba Kyari and four other police officers charged with alleged drug trafficking. Justice Emeka Nwite ruled that the defendants did not provide sufficient grounds for the court to grant bail.

8. According to court documents, $6,230,000 allegedly stolen from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on February 8, 2023, was shared and invested in real estate. The special presidential investigative team, led by Jim Obaze, revealed that the money was removed from the bank’s vault under the guise of paying election observers.

9. The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has called on the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency in the state. Caretaker Committee Chairman of the party in Rivers, Chief Tony Okocha, made this call during a media briefing in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.

10. International award-winning singer David Adeleke, known as Davido, has taken Sophia Momodu, the mother of his first child Imade, to court, seeking custody of his daughter. In an originating motion filed by his lawyers at the Lagos State High Court, Davido is requesting “an order granting joint custody of Miss Imade Adeleke to the applicant.”
